The House of Representatives expressed concern over the high level of revenue leakages in the country. Consequently, it mandated the Committee on Public Accounts to investigate revenue leakages through the Remita platform, non-compliance by revenue-generating agencies of the government on standard operating procedures, and other allied service level agreements.
This resolution followed the adoption of a motion titled “Call to Investigate Revenue Leakages and Non–remittance of Revenues Generated through the Remita Platform,” sponsored by Jeremiah Umaru (APC, Nassarawa) and Jafaru Gambo (APC, Bauchi).

Leading the debate on the motion, Umaru noted that Nigeria was not experiencing an expenditure issue but rather a revenue problem. He highlighted concerns about the Remita platform, a software and financial service owned by System-Specs, which manages government revenues.
Umaru pointed out that over N8.7 trillion had been processed through the platform and raised issues about the charging of a 1% commission, with concerns about its distribution among SystemSpecs, deposit money banks, and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The motion seeks to investigate revenue leakages, non-compliance with standard operating procedures, and other issues related to the Remita platform. The House expressed worry that unchecked revenue leakages could lead to a shortfall in government revenue, hindering its ability to meet citizens’ demands for good governance and infrastructural development.
