Manchester United, have taken down a huge mural of its unsettled star, Cristiano Ronaldo, from the outside of Old Trafford.
Prior to this weekend, Ronaldo’s massive banner will be taken down to make room for Rugby League World Cup promotion.
On Wednesday, cranes were erected at United’s stadium to assist in removing the painting created for the 37-year-old Portuguese striker from the Old Trafford courtyard.
On the day his confrontational interview with Piers Morgan was scheduled to air, cranes were positioned.
The men’s and women’s Rugby League World Cup finals will be held in the stadium on Saturday, according to Manchester Evening News, thus the poster was always expected to be taken down this week.
The large space above the megastore at the forecourt, where the women’s final between Australia and New Zealand will be at 1:15 p.m. and the men’s final between Australia and Samoa at 4 p.m., will now have branding before that showcase final, the report states.
After it was revealed that Ronaldo had given a controversial interview to Piers Morgan, which would be broadcast in its entirety on TalkTV on Wednesday and Thursday night, portraits of the poster of Ronaldo being pulled down have sparked responses.
In the interview, Ronaldo said that the club had betrayed him and that he had lost all respect for Erik ten Hag, the manager.
In order to increase the fear that he would quit Manchester United and the English Premier League after the World Cup in Qatar, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner reportedly enrolled his children in a Portuguese school.
After the initial snippets from the interview surfaced, United released a statement the next day.
