The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is currently engaged in a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, alongside the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, the State deputy governor, and the former governor Peter Odili, among others.
Wike, who is the immediate past governor of Rivers State, played a key role in the emergence of Governor Fubara and other elected officers in both the state and national assemblies during the last general elections. The meeting, held at the President’s office, commenced at around 7 pm.

The ongoing disagreement between Governor Fubara and Wike has led to a factional divide in the state House of Assembly. The emergence of factional leadership has complicated the political landscape.
Recently, the G27 faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Mr. Martins Amaewhule, disagreed with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state government over the vacancy of seats in the House. Amaewhule argued that their seats were not vacant, citing constitutional defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the crisis within the PDP in the state.

This development coincided with the alleged draft of an Abuja court order supporting the G-27 and the initiation of an impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Amaewhule asserted that the 4-man faction led by Edison Ehie could not form a quorum, rendering their actions null and void.
During a dedication service and stakeholders’ meeting of the APC in Port Harcourt, Amaewhule highlighted the constitutional basis for their defection and emphasized their commitment to the rule of law. He dismissed the actions of the rival faction as illegitimate, stating that they lacked the required quorum to convene a valid House of Assembly session.
