The Labour Party has agreed to uphold tranquility throughout the event after a dispute arose between the Abia State government and the state chapter of the party over the usage of the Ngwa High School in Aba for its rally.
Mr. Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, was scheduled to attend the event on Thursday (today), where Dr. Alex Otti, the gubernatorial candidate, will deliver his platform.
The Abia state government had requested the party to reschedule the date of the rally or find an other location for the event since the school will be in session during the demonstration in a letter written by the commissioner for post-basic education, Chief Israel Mark.
The government claimed that the rally’s scheduled start time of 8 a.m. would interfere with academic activities at the school, and that the state would be setting a poor example by ejecting students and teachers from their classrooms in order to hold political rallies that might also leave school property vulnerable to vandalism.
Although Ngwa High School is on midterm vacation, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, the media assistant of the party’s candidate for governor in the state, Dr. Alex Otti, told our News Source that there won’t be any academic activity there.
He said that the state administration was attempting to thwart the demonstration.
According to news reaching ShockingNews, the state leadership of the party met with Mustapha Mohammed Bala, the Commissioner of Police, and signed a commitment to keep the protest in Aba peaceful.

During the event, Ceekay Igara, the party, vowed to uphold harmony and polite behavior.
In part, the letter stated, “We hereby resolve to maintain peace and good conducts throughout the duration of our campaign rally at Ngwa High School Aba on Thursday, November 10, 2022 in accordance with the resolution agreed upon following the meeting held with the Labour Party Leaders and the Commissioner of Police Abia State Command on Wednesday, 09/11/2022.
