Mafab Communications, the second business to be granted a 5G license by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has surpassed the telecom regulator’s deadline, launching the service on Tuesday.
In launching its service in Abuja, the business said that the first phase of its deployment would be in six cities throughout the nation in order to meet the license document’s rollout responsibilities.
The NCC granted the firm a 5-month extension to satisfy its deployment commitment after it acquired the 5G spectrum license with MTN in December 2021. The 5-month term ends in January.

Dr. Mushabu Bashir, Chairman of Mafab Communications, remarked during the launch: “The implementation of 5G is the start of a new age with endless possibilities.”

“The 5G network will usher in a plethora of business opportunities, with various business outfits expanding their frontiers with operational ease and speed, particularly in the fields of education, medical sciences, engineering, security, banking, SMEs, smart cities, transportation, and entertainment.”
He said that this new technology would not only assist metropolitan regions but will also help them achieve their long-term aim of guaranteeing that people in rural areas and villages can also benefit from this fantastic technology.
“It is no secret that the countries that can provide their citizens with the latest network infrastructure which the 5G technology represents, will also be the ones that will thrive in the coming years. “They will be the ones that will stay competitive and the ones who will lead in innovation in addition to bringing socio-economic benefits to their citizens.
So, with 5G infrastructure, Nigeria will undoubtedly be ahead of many other nations, particularly in Africa.
Indeed, our future as a people and as a nation is very bright with the 5G network,” Bashir remarked.
Prof. Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, also spoke at the occasion.
“MTN began the roll and now Mafab has entered the line, I applaud the Chairman of Mafab for his dedication to the development of the firm. It is very difficult for a new player that has just recently entered the sector to compete with some of the sector’s active players.”
He said that 5G offers huge advantages for security agencies since there are security technologies that exploit 5G, allowing security establishments to handle security issues correctly.
