Cars powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) have been mass-produced by Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing as an alternative to the skyrocketing cost of fuel and diesel in Nigeria.
On June 6th, a showcase of CNG cars was held at the IVM facility in Nnewi. Trucks, minibuses, ambulances, long buses, sport utility vehicles, and a few more types of vehicles are included.
Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma, CEO of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing, gave reassurances to Nigerians that they were many different types of automobiles available and that driving a CNG vehicle was safe.

What’s the Future of alternative fuel Vehicles in Nigeria?
When asked about the future of alternative fuels, Innoson’s boss said that CNG vehicles provide a solution to relying only on one or two vehicle types.
We manufacture CNG cars because they are a viable answer. We accommodated CNG, LNG, and Fuel to utilise whatever is readily available to power the cars. The company also manufactures electric cars, vehicles powered by biogas, and solar-powered automobiles.
The Governor of Anambra State, who was represented by Mr. Christian Udechukwu, Commissioner for Industry of Anambra State, said that his state is preparing to provide answers to the problems Nigerians are experiencing as a result of the elimination of subsidies.
We are aware that Innoson has renewable technologies, CNG, LNG, and Solar powered technologies that may contribute to the mass transit system in Nigeria and other national solutions,” he said.
Fuel prices have soared by 200 percent since the subsidy was removed, prompting unrest among members of the Nigerian Labour Congress, the trade unions, and ordinary Nigerians.

What role should Government Play?
The government may help mitigate the rising expense of transportation by funding the development of alternative energy and fuel-based mass transit systems.
The bigger the number of petrol and solar-powered units, the greater the possibility of a steady fuel price, and Innoson provides that.
He also emphasised the need of domestic manufacturing and industrial empowerment for Nigeria’s economy and debt issues. Innoson is a great example of a local solution that may help companies and people alike.
Mr. Cornel Osigwe, Head of Corporate Communications at Innoson Vehicles, discussed the benefits of NGVs and the need of supporting domestic producers. He claims that petrol burns more efficiently than other fuels.
