The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has previously recommended eligible voters in the upcoming 2023 general election visit its online platform before the polls to check and verify their polling unit addresses and other details as well.
A brief message titled “Information for all eligible voters” was provided by the commission, in which it said that the advice was crucial since the commission had relocated some voters from overcrowded polling units to less congested polling units within the same area in order to facilitate a smooth voting process.
During a meeting with national leaders of political parties in Abuja on Monday, INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated that feedback “from our officials and accredited observers following the recent nationwide mock accreditation using the BVAS” revealed that some voters could not easily identify their polling units.
As a result, Yakubu recommended voters to use a specialized portal on the INEC website to determine the actual location of their polling units.
Steps eligible voters may take to verify their polling unit’s location using the INEC website.
Step 1
Visit cvr.inecnigeria.org/vvs or voters.inecnigeria.org.
The link takes you to the main page, which has a menu icon in the upper right corner.
Step 2
When you click on the icon, a dropdown list with three possibilities appears.
Check Voters Status, Polling Unit Locator, and Help are among the choices available.
Step 3
When you click on Polling Unit Locator, you will be sent to a form that asks for your polling unit information.
These comprise the state, and local government, registration area (ward number), and polling unit name.
Keep your Permanent Voter Card on hand to enter the necessary information.
You may also verify your entire voter information by utilizing the Check Voters Status site, which simply needs your Voters Identification Number and surname.
Step 4
After you’ve filled out the form, click the green “Get Directions” button.
This takes you to Google Maps, where you can get directions to your polling unit’s location.
INEC nonetheless urges voters to personally visit their polling unit before the election day, since the instructions supplied through the map are just “approximate”.
