Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has fired his Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Okojie Newton.
The ministry was established by the Obaseki government after his re-election as governor for a second term.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, Obaseki wished Okojie well in his future endeavors.
“The governor praised the commissioner for his service to the state and wished him luck in his future endeavors,” according to the statement.
“It is sad that we have not made the anticipated development in our road infrastructure, especially in the previous year.”
“Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, the commissioner was unable to make considerable headway toward the state government’s aim.”
He said that the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Osikhena Ojior, will take over until a new commissioner is chosen.
