Google, the tech giant, has unveiled a rebranding for its AI model formerly known as Bard, now called Gemini, with enhanced features aimed at rivalling OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Previously accessible for free, Google has introduced Gemini Advanced as a premium subscription option. This upgraded version will initially be offered in English across more than 150 countries and territories.

Accompanying the rebranding is the launch of the Gemini app for Android and integration into the Google app on iOS. Android users will have the option to replace their Google Assistant with Gemini.
In an official statement released on Thursday, Google explained the rationale behind the name change and highlighted the advanced capabilities of Gemini. The newly introduced Gemini Advanced offers expanded functionalities such as enhanced reasoning, instructional following, coding support, and creative collaboration, catering to various needs from personalized tutoring to content strategy planning.

Access to Gemini Advanced is available through the Google One AI Premium plan, a comprehensive subscription service consolidating Google’s AI features. Additionally, Google mentioned the integration of Gemini for Workspace into productivity tools like Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet for users subscribed to the Google One AI Premium plan.

Google’s move to enhance its AI offerings comes amid competition from OpenAI, which recently unveiled the GPT-4 Turbo, a more powerful and cost-effective iteration of its text-generating AI model. Google responded by introducing its suite of generative AI models, including Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano, with updated conversational capabilities in English under the Gemini Pro variant.
