In the latest edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR) for 2024, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has achieved recognition as the leading agricultural university in Africa, securing the 7th position globally.
The 2024 WUR introduced a novel 3.0 methodology, meticulously evaluating 2,671 entries from 1,906 universities spanning 108 countries and regions. This comprehensive approach calibrated 18 performance indicators, assessing institutions in five pivotal areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook.

The ranking process involved a thorough examination of over 134 million citations sourced from 16.5 million research publications. Additionally, survey responses from 68,402 scholars worldwide contributed to the evaluation. A total of 411,789 data points were collected from 2,673 institutions that submitted their data.
Professor Babatunde Kehinde, the Vice-Chancellor, extended congratulations to the entire University community for this remarkable achievement and emphasized the need for heightened collaboration to achieve even greater milestones.

FUNAAB had previously secured the 2nd position in Nigeria in the 2023 Sub-Saharan Africa University rankings and was acknowledged as the best public university in Nigeria.
The 2024 league table by Times Higher Education Rankings, signalling shifts in the global higher education landscape, underscores the credibility of these rankings, which are globally trusted by students, educators, governments, and industry experts.
