The Kaduna State administration said on Friday that it has vaccinated more over five million people against COVID-19, indicating a completely vaccinated goal coverage of 4.9 million people.
Mr Ibrahim Adamu, Deputy State Immunization Officer, State Primary Healthcare Board, said this in Kaduna on the sidelines of a novelty football match to educate young people about sexual and reproductive health.
According to Adamu, around 3.2 million of the vaccinated individuals are female.
He said that Kaduna State was rated fourth in the country for states with a completely immunized populace.
He said that attempts were being made to mobilize people who had not yet received their second doses of the vaccine to do so in order to be properly immunized.
“We are collaborating with the state’s social mobilization working group to guarantee that every person who is scheduled to be vaccinated gets properly vaccinated.”
“We had a lack of vaccinations in certain local government regions as of last week, but we have already received about 5,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccines that are being delivered to all locations,” he added.
The novelty match was organized by the United Nations Population Fund and the Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Board in partnership with the Kaduna State AIDS Control Agency and an NGO called the Youth Ambassadors, according to NAN.
According to Dr Audu Alayande, Assistant Representative, Reproductive Health, UNFPA Kaduna, the program was organized to educate young people about sexual and reproductive health, HIV, family planning, and COVID-19.
“It is also to provide essential information and knowledge to the young on how to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, unexpected pregnancies, and unintended marriages,” he said.
