The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says that it will station over of 200,000 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in the forthcoming 2023 general election.
INEC National Commissioner in charge for Abia, Anambra and Benue, Festus Okoye, affirmed that the BVAS would be conveyed to the 176,000 surveying units the nation over.
Mr Okoye, who was in Abia to screen the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), expressed this during an interactive meeting with writers in Umuahia on Friday that the excess would be kept helpful as a reserve.
“We will have one BVAS hold in each Registration Area Center (RAC) to guarantee prompt mediation in the event of any disappointment,” said Mr Okoye, who is the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee.
He further said that Technical Officers would be on reserve at each RAC to take care of any specialized issues that could emerge during the course of the polls.
Mr Okoye further said that the commission had the ability to conduct consistent general election in 2023 and was set to reproduce the accomplishments and triumphs kept in the Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial decisions.
He ascribed the commission’s accomplishment in the two elections to the deployment of gadgets, which he said the results “have given Nigerians new expectations”.
He said that 2023 offered the commission a chance to develop its record, and that INEC director, Mahmood Yakubu, is certain of the commission’s assurance to guarantee that everybody’s vote count.
