Controversy has arisen following a performance by Afrobeats star Spyro at a church event on Sunday.
During the event at The Harvesters International Christian Centre, Spyro performed his hit song, ‘Only Fine Girl.’ This prompted debates as some questioned its alignment with Christian principles, while others argued that the event was a stage play.
As a result, certain netizens directed their inquiries towards the lead pastor of the church, Pastor Bolaji Idowu, expressing concerns over the performance.

A user, sharing the video, questioned,
“Is this proper to sing in a church? I like Pastor B, but I don’t know what to say about this.”
Another commenter, MarvelAngulu, suggested,
“I think the spiritual father or oversight of the pastor of this church needs to talk to them.”

“The same people telling us the church has no business with emancipating people politically. It’s just misplaced priorities. Standing for nothing, falling for anything.”

Supporting the program, another user said,
“I’m not Pastor B’s defender, but there was context to this performance. It was a stage play, more like a musical, and different people came to impress the King depicting King Herod in the Bible…”

In response to the backlash, Nollywood actor and film producer Daniel Etim Effiong clarified that the event, featuring Spyro and other celebrities, was not a Sunday service but a free-to-register musical stage play titled “#HarvestersNG Fantasia 2023: A Christmas Musical.”
He emphasized,
“Let’s set the records straight. I was the producer of #HarvestersNG Fantasia 2023: A Christmas Musical… IT WASN’T A SUNDAY SERVICE, IT WAS A (FREE TO REGISTER) MUSICAL STAGE PLAY!!!”
The event saw the presence of Spyro, Nollywood movie stars such as Sharon Ooja, Bisola Aiyeola, Daniel Etim Effiong, Uzor Azukwe, Dorathy Bachor, among others.
