After firing Ralph Hasenhuttl, Southampton has officially announced Nathan Jones as their new manager with a three-and-a-half-year deal.
As first-team coaches, he will be joined on the south coast by Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan.
I’m really grateful for this chance, Jones added.
I have a lot of knowledge about the team, having followed it from The Dell to St. Mary’s, and I think they are a fantastic football team.
Many members of my family support Southampton, which certainly helps. I’m quite grateful for the chance, and I can’t wait to get going.
“Obviously, I wanted to manage in the Premier League; I’ve dreamed of that since I became a coach or manager. But this club in particular appeals to me because of the way it’s conducted; the organization; and the fact that they go beyond just results.”
Jones was under contract with Luton until 2027 as he watched Southampton upset League One Sheffield Wednesday on penalties in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
As a consequence, Southampton and Luton reached an arrangement for compensation that Luton deemed “acceptable,” with a first payment of what is thought to be £3 million.
