Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje presented a draft budget of N245 billion for the fiscal year 2023 on Friday.
The Consolidation and Prosperity II budget is about N45 billion greater than the N196 billion budget in 2022.
In presenting the budget to the State House of Assembly, Ganduje said that capital spending is N144 billion (59%) and recurring expenditure is above N100 billion (41%).
“The budget intends to further consolidate on measures taken by the administration toward economic development and boosting residents’ well-being,” Ganduje stated.
The Governor said that the Education sector receives the lion’s share of the budget, with N62 billion comprising 27% of the entire budget.
Ganduje, on the other hand, said that the health sector received the second largest allocation of approximately N39.1 billion, followed by works and infrastructures with N35 billion.
Others include the agriculture sector, which received N19.9 billion, water supply, which received N15 billion, and security, law, and justice, which received N12.8 billion.
Engineer Hamisu Chidari, the Speaker, committed to take quick measures in order to approve the budget on time and satisfy the January-December budget loop.
Chidari, on the other hand, urged members of the public, Civil Society Organizations, and others to prepare for the public hearing in order to ensure the budget’s smooth passage.
