The Edo State Ministry of Health has publicly stated that eight people at this point in the state have tested positive for monkeypox.
The state Ministry has encouraged occupants to take notice and adhere to security measures to decrease the spread of the infection and other infectious illnesses in the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akoria Obehi, who made the revelation to writers in Benin on Monday said that the service had ramped up vigilance and different exercises to checkmate the spread of the disease.
She furthermore stated that all people who tested positive to the disease had recuperated.
“admidst the number of confirm cases of monkeypox in Edo, it has become neccessary to caution on the health risk that the disease presents and hammered on the need for the people of Edo to be mindful and stick to somewhere safe and practice necessary safe measures.”
Prof. Akoria Obehi also mentioned the side effects of monkeypox to include fever, headache, weakness of the body, sore throat, and enlarged glands under the jaw and in the neck region.
“other symptoms includes, rash on the face, palms, soles of the feet, privates parts, and different areas of the body, which can seem solid or liquid filled at the beginning.
“It can take half a month or three weeks after contamination, depending on the wellbeing status of the person.”
Obehi, who encouraged inhabitants on measures to contain the disease, said: “The infection can be gotten from infected creatures in the wild and rodents like rodents, mice, squirrels, and even monkeys through contact with infected blood, body fluids, spots, rankles or scabs, and sharing of items.”
“Stay away from contact with dead or live wild creatures, for example, little mammals including rodents, squirrels and non-human primates (monkeys, chimps).
“Completely cook all food varieties containing meat from these animals before to eating.
“Avoid unprotected contact with contaminated creatures, people, their sheets, and other material; wash hands routinely, and use hand sanitiser when water isn’t nearby.”
The Edo Health Commissioner, who reaffirmed the State Government’s obligation to containing the disease outbreak and safeguarding the wellbeigns of edo residents, said that the state’s disease surveillance team had been deployed to control the outbreak in the state.
This was close by the commitment of stakeholders across the state’s 18 Local Government Areas.
