The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), as part of its ongoing oil exploration efforts in the nation’s interior basins, plans to spud the nation’s first oil well in Nassarawa state in March 2023.
This was announced by the NNPC Ltd.’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Malam Mele Kyari, when Governor Abdullahi Sule of the state, along by a delegation of renowned indigenes of the state, paid a courtesy visit to the company’s headquarters in Abuja.
The presence of significant hydrocarbon resources in the state was confirmed by the findings of exploratory activities, according to Kyari, who revealed this in a statement released on Friday by Mr. Garbadeen Muhammad, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd.
As investments in fossil fuels have decreased as a result of the global energy transition, he urged swift action on the project.
“Due to the energy shift, the entire globe is moving away from fossil fuels, so this job must be completed very quickly.
The sooner you launch, the better for you, as in ten years, no one will agree to invest in the petroleum industry unless it comes from your cash flow, he stated.
Kyari said that in order to avoid the Niger Delta’s problems, community support and a favorable climate are essential for a successful operation in the region.
The governor responded by congratulating the GCEO on the effective start of oil production and the Kolmani Integrated development project, which President Muhammadu Buhari launched in November 2022.
Sule said, “For people who don’t know what you have done for Nigeria, you have inscribed your name in gold. I want to congratulate you, the management of NNPC, and the federal government for what you have done at Kolmani.
He thanked President Buhari for his assistance and promised the NNPC a supportive atmosphere.
The governor was accompanied on the tour by the state’s first executive governor, Dr. Abdullahi Adamu, the state’s deputy governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, and Senator Tanko Almakura, who served as the governor before him.
Others include the Chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mallam Isa Modibo, the Environment Minister, Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi, the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Muhammad, and others.
