Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has stated that results of 2023 Elections will be transmitted in real-time to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) on election day, and that the Commission will not retract its decision.
Wednesday in Abuja, Yakubu disclosed this information during the third quarterly meeting with political parties for 2022.
According to him, the number of registered voters in Nigeria increased from 84,004,084 to 93,522,272 after the addition of 9,518,188 new voters.
According to him, Section 19(1) and (2) of the Electoral Act 2022 mandated the commission to exhibit hard copies of the register of voters for each Registration Area (ward) and Local Government Area (LGA) (LGA).
He noted that INEC was also mandated to publish the whole voter registration list on its website for two weeks for citizen review, claims, and objections no later than 90 days before the general election.
Accordingly, the commission will print 9,352,228 pages of the register in the next days.
“A hard copy will be exhibited in each of the 8,809 Registration Areas (Wards) and 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the nation, while the whole register will be published on our website for claims and objections as required by law.
“The physical register will be shown at selected centers from Saturday, November 12 through Friday, November 25. “Additional information, including the procedure for registering claims and objections, will be issued by the commission next week,” the statement continued.
