Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, said on Tuesday that he would make all admission exams into higher institutions free for Nigerians.
According to him, if elected in 2023, his government would guarantee that parents do not have to pay any registration fees for the West African Examination Council, WAEC, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), or National Examination Council.
Former Kano State governor Kwankwaso said this in his manifesto, which is now being presented to the public in Abuja.
Aside from providing free test forms, Kwankwaso said that JAMB results issued by his administration would be valid for four years.
The NNPP presidential contender also promised to enroll Nigeria’s 20 million out-of-school children within the next four years.
He dismissed the myth that any examination body would produce revenue and contribute to the federation coffers.
“Examination bodies are service entities that provide access to higher education and training for our teeming young population,” according to the paper.
“No Nigerian kid should be denied the opportunity to write WAEC, NECO, JAMB, etc., because of their inability to pay high registration/examination fees during our government.”
These exams will be free, as will all application forms for admission to Tertiary Education Institutions.
“The Kwankwaso government would fully support these examination organizations.”
“The assumption that the Nigerian matriculation test expires after one year will be abandoned immediately.”
Under the Kwankwaso administration, JAMB scores would be valid for four years, and TEIs will be forced to recognize these results for admission reasons.”
Kwankwaso emphasized in the document that examination organizations are not revenue-generating institutions and should not function as such.
